Hey guys, after 6 1/2 hours of layover, 6 1/2 hours of
flight and 1 hour of claiming luggage, we finally made
it to Portugal The first thing we did was meet up with
Victor Mama. After that we went to the metro to get to
our hostel and the first thing I saw was a poster for
Hotel Transylvania 2.
We got settled at the hostel and then we went out to
explore and after Victor Mama told us some boring
history we noticed a "Tuk Tuk" that looked like an
auto rickshaw.

After a couple metro rides and a commuter train ride,
we got to a touristy place and it had a statue of Henry
the Navigator,
and a monastery/church.
Luis Vas de Camoes's grave( luiz vash thi camoeish)
we saw a cool stain glass window in the church part.
These are two cloths with the symbol of the Knights
Templar.
I noticed that the ceiling of the church is beautiful. It's
made of interconnected circles
Mom and Victormama took a tour around the building
while I took a picture of the doorway to the building.
Across the street there was a lemonade stand. It was
freshly made lemonade so I took a picture of the huge
lemons. They're bigger than the oranges!
We got the lemonade, but when I took a sip, it was
completely bitter. So we asked if she had sugar, and
she pointed to the side of the cart and there were
dispensers of mint, ginger, green tea and regular
sugar syrup. I mixed mint and regular sugar syrup.
Next to the lemonade stand there was a beer stand.
And Victormama became interested. He ended up
getting a Super Bock, which is a local Lisbon beer.
Next to the monastery, there was a fountain with a bunch of weird birds resting. We didn't know if it was a duck or a goose or turkey.
To get across the road to the Monument of the
Discoveries, we went underground and we heard this
really loud music. When we got to the end of the
tunnel, there was a man playing an accordion. We
gave him some money and I took a picture.
This is the Monument to the Discoveries.
The Monument shows a sword and a cross, on the
front is a ship, conquering everything. This is because
the Portuguese conquered lots of places in the world.
In front of the Monument was the world showing what
they conquered.
On the sides of the Monument there are lines of
people that sailed to places that they conquered like
Vasco de Gama. On the front is Henry the Navigator,
who never actually went anywhere.
It's a bird! It's a plane! It's a birdplane!
Just fishing on the River Tejo
On the River Tejo is the Tower of Belem. I got this
really nice picture with the land, the side and rocks.
This is my first meal in Portugal. A cheese sandwich!
We went back to the fountain and I snapped a picture
of two horses that looked like chess pieces.
Another shot of the Monastery from afar.
After that it was time for dessert and so we got these
custard cups, from the original and famous place that
makes them.
Then we took a trolley back to the city to eat dinner.
Totally cool Arjun! Jamie and I were in Lisbon years ago and we went to these same places. They didn't have lemonade or beer carts then though, maybe because it was winter when we went. They had carts selling hot roasted chestnuts and lots of Christmas holiday street performers. Anne
